I Live in Black Leggings—And Honestly, I’m Not Even Sorry About It

If you had asked me five years ago what the most important item in my closet was, I might have said it was a pair of good running shoes. Now?

It's a foregone conclusion.

Black leggings

And it's not "occasionally wearing", but rather something like this -
The kind where you wash it and then put it on immediately.

I am a woman who is constantly engaged in physical activities - training, running, walking the dog, buying coffee, catching flights...

Basically, half of my life is spent in leggings.

A friend made a joke and said:
"Are you only wearing one type of pants?"

I usually respond as follows:
"No, I have many pairs of black leggings."

This is not laziness, nor is it a fashion choice.
This is a very realistic decision made after years of practice.

In this article today, I'd like to present my genuine experiences over the years regarding black leggings in one go.

There are no tricks, no fancy words. It's simply a summary left by a long-term exercising woman after encountering various problems.

If you are also looking for a pair of leggings that are truly comfortable to wear, I hope this information will be helpful to you.

Eco-Friendly Classic High-Waisted 7/8 Workout Leggings

Why have almost all of my sports pants turned into black leggings?

Let me be honest first.

I didn't start out wearing only black.

I have tried:

  • Bright pink
  • Camouflage
  • Batik-dyed
  • Crimson red
  • That particular gradient color that is very popular on Instagram

It all looks very cool.
But the problem is --
Look good for three days, but be troublesome for three months.

Black has a very practical advantage: it's very convenient to handle.

For example:
You are in a hurry in the morning.
You just grab any T-shirt.
You haven't had your coffee yet.
Your mind is empty.

At this point, all you need is a pair of black leggings.

No need for matching.
No need for thinking.
No need to worry about looking bigger.

It will never be a mistake.

And more importantly:
They are very durable.
I have a pair of black workout leggings that I have been wearing for nearly two years.
Experiences:

  • Sweat-inducing training
  • Outdoor running
  • Long-distance flight
  • Countless washing machines

It still looks brand new.

At that moment, I suddenly realized something:
Not all leggings are consumables.

Really good black leggings won't make you constantly "think about it"

It sounds a bit abstract, but this is my most genuine experience.

I used to wear a lot of cheap leggings before.

During training, my mind often thought about these things:

  • Will it slide down?
  • Will they be see-through?
  • Will the waist roll up?
  • Do I need to keep pulling it upwards all the time?

This has a significant impact on concentration.

Especially when doing squats.

If you have ever practiced leg exercises, you surely understand.

You need to focus on your breathing, rhythm and core.
But if your pants keep falling down, you'll just think:

"Please don't let anything go wrong now."

Later, I finally found a few truly reliable black leggings. The feeling was like this -
I completely forgot that I was wearing pants.

This may sound like a joke, but for athletes, it's the highest compliment.

Now I'm choosing black leggings, and I'm only considering these 6 details.

These are not theories. They are checklists that I have compiled after actually falling into some pitfalls.

Each one is very practical.

1.The fabric must have a sense of support, rather than being merely soft.

Nowadays, many brands prefer to use a single word:
buttery soft

It sounds quite sophisticated, doesn't it?

But to be completely honest:

Some so-called "super soft" fabrics are actually equivalent to...
lacking support.

Especially when performing these actions:

  • Squat
  • Lunge
  • Jump
  • Running

If the fabric is too soft, it will gradually come loose.

Now what I value more is:
compression

That is, a slight sense of compression.
Not Le, but rather that kind:
The sensation of the muscles being gently supported.

2.The high-waist design is not intended to make the legs appear longer; it is for stability.

Previously, I thought high-waist leggings were just a fashion design.
Later, I discovered that it was actually a functional design.

Especially during the core training sessions.

For example:

  • plank
  • deadlift
  • squat

The high-waist design will provide some support to your abdomen.
You will feel more stable.

And it has another hidden advantage:
It won't keep sliding down.

3.The waistband must be wide; otherwise, it will definitely get tangled.

This is a detail that is very easily overlooked.

If the waistband is too narrow, you will encounter this problem:

How many times did you do burpees?
Or did you run for a short distance?

Then —
It began to roll up.

And it gets tighter and tighter.

Very annoying.

Now I basically only buy:

wide waistband leggings

Simple and straightforward, but effective.

4.Be sure to conduct the "squat test"

This is the action I always perform every time I try on clothes.

It's very simple:
Put on
Look in the mirror
Do a squat

If you could see the color of the underwear -

Just put it back.

Don't hesitate.

No matter how beautiful it is.

5.The gusset structure of the pants is really crucial.

This word sounds very technical, but its meaning is quite simple.

Leggings with a gusset tend to be more comfortable.

If not, you might encounter:

  • Friction
  • Discomfort
  • An unnatural gait

I used to have a pair of leggings. Every time I ran, it made me question my life.

Later I discovered that it actually had no gusset at all.

Since then, I have never bought this design again.

6. Pockets are not for decoration; they are a necessity.

If you often:

  • Running
  • Walking the dog
  • Go out to buy coffee
  • Go to the gym

You will definitely need to use your pocket.

Cell phone
Key
Card

Without a pocket, you'll have to hold it in your hand all the time.

Nowadays, I basically only buy:
black leggings with pockets

Because it's so convenient.

Color-Block High-Waisted Leggings

I once publicly embarrassed myself because of a pair of leggings.

I can tell this story with a smile now, but it was really embarrassing at the time.

That was a group training session.

We did a lot of things:

  • jump squat
  • lunge
  • box jump

At that time, I was wearing a pair of light-colored leggings and it looked very nice.

Halfway through the training, a friend came over and whispered:
"You might need to put on a coat."

I didn't quite understand at that moment.

Until I looked in the mirror.

At that moment, all I wanted was to disappear.
Because --

The pants are completely transparent.

From that point on, I made a decision:
If it's for training, I only wear black leggings.

It's not because of fashion.

It's because of the sense of security.

Why do I now prefer to buy a good one rather than stock up on cheap ones?

When I was young, I was particularly fond of discounts.

When I see the leggings priced at $19.99, I will buy them.

So, what's the result?

Three months later:

  • Stretching out
  • Becoming loose
  • Losing shape

Then I'll buy a new one.

Later, I did the calculation:

Buy 4 pairs of cheap leggings every year

About $80.

But a high-quality pair of black leggings can be worn for two years.

And the experience is completely different.

At that moment, I finally realized:
Cheap, sometimes it turns out to be more expensive.

In recent years, I have begun to pay attention to some brands that are low-key but have excellent craftsmanship.

When you exercise for a long enough period of time, you will gradually notice something:

What really matters is not the logo.

It is rather an experience.

Over the past few years, I have tried many brands, including well-known ones as well as more understated ones.

One brand that left a deep impression on me was duskyonder

The first time I noticed this brand was at the gym.

A girl is doing a squat.

A full hour of training, her leggings:

  • Not sliding
  • Not rolling
  • Not see-through

This is actually quite rare in reality.

After trying it on myself, my biggest reaction was not "Wow", but:

Comfortable. Stable. Invisible.

Sometimes, the best design is one that you simply don't notice at all.

Different lengths of black leggings can actually affect your training experience.

Many people only focus on the appearance.

But the length is really crucial.

If you frequently engage in strength training

I suggest:
full length leggings

The reason is quite simple:
More stable
More support
Less prone to wear and tear

If you often go running

I prefer:
7/8 leggings

Because:
Lighter More breathable
Less likely to feel sweaty

If you live in a very hot place

For example:

  • Texas
  • Florida
  • Or any humid, hot region

You will find that:
Capri length is more comfortable.

Now, when I judge whether a pair of black leggings is good or not, I only consider these 3 factors.

Very simple.

First: Will it start to slide down?
If you need to keep pulling upwards
Direct elimination.

Second: Will they be see-through?
Just do a squat and you'll know.

Third: Will it distract me?
If I keep thinking about my pants during training
It is not acceptable.

Final note: Black leggings are not a fashionable item, but rather a tool.

Over the years, I have gone through many stages:

Weight fluctuations
Training bottlenecks
Recovery from injuries
Work stress

And black leggings have always been there.

They accompanied me:

Complete the first 5K
Learn the standard squat
Get through the busiest working season
Re-establish the training rhythm

So now someone asks me:

"Why do you have such a fondness for black leggings?"

My answer is quite simple:

Because they help me stay focused.

Not more beautiful.
Not more trendy.

It is instead more at ease.

If you are looking for a truly comfortable black leggings, just remember this:
Choose a pair that you can completely forget ever existed.

When you do this,
you have made the right choice.
