After-Work Gym Outfit: Our Black-and-White Formula

What should you change into after work when you want a gym outfit that feels deliberately put together? Our pick is black-and-white colorblock leggings, a plain white crew-neck tee and a simple black zip jacket, worn with shoes suited to your workout and your usual sports bra for that session.

We choose this combination for a clear reason: the leggings supply the graphic detail, the white tee repeats their lighter color, and the black jacket brings the outside of the outfit back to one dark shade. You have a complete look with the jacket on and a complete workout outfit when it comes off.

Build around the leggings, then keep the tee plain

Start with black leggings that have white panels. For this look, we recommend an ankle-length, fitted leg: it gives the lower half a defined outline while leaving the shoe visible. Treat the panels as the outfit's main pattern.

Add a plain white tee in a regular or slightly relaxed fit, ending around the upper hip. We would choose this over a large slogan tee here because another prominent graphic competes with the leggings' panel design. A simple front lets the colorblock detail carry the look.

Leave the tee untucked. That creates one broad white area above the leggings, without adding gathered fabric at the waist. The top does not need to reveal every part of the waistband. In this outfit, showing the leg panels is enough to establish the repeated black and white.

Finish with a black zip jacket that follows the outfit's shape

Our first choice is a plain black jacket ending around the hip, with enough room to sit smoothly over the tee. Wear it open for the journey: the white tee stays visible through the center, framed by the darker jacket.

Keep the jacket and tee hems reasonably close together. For this particular look, we prefer that compact arrangement to a long white tee extending far below a short jacket, which adds another strong horizontal edge across the hips.

At the gym, remove the jacket and train in the tee and leggings. That is why we start with a complete base outfit: the outer layer finishes the styling without being necessary to hold the look together. For a warm journey, leave the jacket out; the two-piece color combination still has a clear focal point.

Choose the shoes for training, then settle their color

Use the shoes appropriate for the session you have planned. If you already have two suitable pairs, we would pick the mostly black pair for this formula: it repeats the darker part of the leggings and keeps the white tee as the largest light area.

If your workout shoes are another color, keep them. Their job in the session takes priority over completing the palette. Do not add another colored item just to match the shoes; the black-and-white clothing already gives the outfit its structure.

Use one graphic piece to make the outfit yours

The contrast panels on our Dualis Horizon Leggings are one example of the detail this formula is built around. Keep the tee and jacket plain to give those panels room, rather than adding a second large pattern.

Our recommendation is therefore specific: one pair of graphic leggings, one plain white tee and one black zip layer, with workout-appropriate shoes. The styling comes from repeating two colors and giving each piece a clear role. Start with that complete outfit, then change a piece only when your workout, the weather or your coverage needs give you a reason.
